Debian package dependency incorrect for ubuntu 26.04

First of all, let me say that I’m very happy about the native linux packages. This is for sure making the world much happier place.

I’m on latest LTS version of Ubuntu (26.04) and you most likely have tried 24.04 leading to the “libicu” dependency not being available. The package requires libicu76 but I have only libicu78 [1].

This should be easy fix by adding libicu78 to config.sh[2]

I’m willing to test it and also I can provide proper MR if that is prefered way for fixing this problem.

Thank you for the work you are doing for the community.

Kind regards.

m.

I can confirm that with Linux 24.04.2 LTS, the install is extremely quick and straightforward. And puts itself in the right place in my menus.

Absolutely delighted to have Linux and Mac versions; our previous habit of running XP in VirtualBox was starting to fall apart as the product moved on from the last XP-supported version.

My one observation on the Linux install is that the paragraph underneath the “Download DEB Package” button exceeded my understanding, and I couldn’t work out whether or why I might want to edit the first line or change the Enabled status.

Sorry if I should have started a new thread for this, only the first line is relevant to the original post.

Is there a simple way that people can install on Ubuntu 26.04 as a temporary workaround until this dependency is fixed. Ideally I would like to just edit the web page today to explain a workaround instead of republishing the packages, but I don’t know if such a thing is possible. Were you able to get it installed?

I ended up using AppImage.

You can force installation of deb package and install libicu78 separately but it would print missing dependencies every time you use apt for anything [1]

I believe it would be best at this moment to just mention that on Ubuntu 26.04 AppImage should be used until this is fixed.

The .deb file for Debian/Ubuntu Linux installs has been updated. It should now work with Ubuntu 26.04 and similar distributions.
